Abstract

Abstract Acoustic attenuation measurements were performed on test objects composed of a mixture of mineral oil and a polymer developed by the 3M Company. The attenuation values, which were measured at 20, 30, 37, and 40°C over the frequency range 1.0–3.5 MHz, fell between the values for castor oil and mineral oil. The frequency dependence of the attenuation is f 5 3 . During one year of laboratory use in and out of water, the test objects showed no tendency to deteriorate. This material appears to be a good candidate for use as a simulated tissue in ultrasound research.
