Abstract
The main aim of this paper is to study laser welding of AISI stainless steel (SS) 410 and mild steel (MS) at different values of welding power, welding speed and frequency. The welding of dissimilar metals is most useful in structural, automobiles, furniture and decorative applications. But there is a difficulty in welding of mild steel and stainless steel due to the loss of carbon from mild steel and precipitation of chromium in stainless steel. Laser welding is best suitable process which is used to control the problems occurred during welding on base metals joints. A 2 kW continuous wave fibre laser welding machine was used to weld 2 mm thick stainless steel (SS) and mild steel (MS) plates. The photos of the welded joints were assessed and then tested to investigate the mechanical properties of the welded joints.
