Abstract

Continuous tuning of the emission frequency between nine vibrational transitions in the XeCl molecule was achieved in a long-pulse (0.5-μs) XeCl laser by the use of an intracavity Fabry–Perot etalon. The laser tuning range between 307.00 and 308.93 nm was ~202 cm−1 and the lasing line width was down to 1.4 cm−1. Lasing due to the 1–5 vibrational transition was achieved for the first time. The tuning range (1.93 nm) was better than any other published result.
