Abstract

Results of continuous rotary extrusion of AZ81 magnesium alloy were presented, which is an innovative way to plastic forming of this alloy. The main aim of this study was to optimize the parameters of the continuous rotary extrusion process for magnesium alloys AZ81. Continuous Rotary Extrusion process becomes frequently used variation of the plastic working process. Growing demand for products made of magnesium alloys with high mechanical properties, obtained in an economically justified process, requires more profound knowledge of the specific nature of different plastic forming processes and their impact on the properties. During CRE process the speed of the rotating wheel was controlled and the die temperature was registered. The resulting products were subjected to microstructure examination and testing of mechanical properties. Based on tests carried out, parameters enabling to obtain rods with satisfactory properties were selected. The results of researches presented in this paper show that it is possible to obtain rods from AZ81 magnesium alloy in the continuous rotary extrusion process.
