Abstract

SUMMARY A method has been developed to measure the quantity and frequency of urine loss in in-continent patients, who are free to lie, sit and exercise at will. The pattern of leakage can be categorised and quantified, distinct recordings being obtained for continuous dribbling, sudden losses on straining, etc. It is anticipated that the device will be of use in the assessment of all types of urine loss and of any subsequent improvement effected by various treatments. Volumes from 1 ml. to 100 ml. can be measured, and the entire equipment may be battery-operated and is safe to use with patients of any age, including those who are bedridden or chairbound.
