Abstract

AbstractUrea in blood from a patient undergoing dialysis was continuously monitored using immobilized urease reactor with a conductivity meter. A linear response of urea in the range between 5 to 50 mM with the throughput of 15 samples h−1 was obtained. Urea measured with this biosensor shows a good correlation with the chemical analysis method. A good operational stability for on‐line monitoring during dialysis and the promising storage stability of the urea reactor were found. At 4, and 25°C, no significant activity loss was detected in the urease reactor throughout the 50 weeks storage time. At 37°C, no activity decline was observed before 20 weeks. However, after 50 weeks storage, no activity in the reactor can be detected.
