Abstract

THE ACS News Service has just released for distribution two brochures—one entitled ACS News Service—the Voice of the Chemical Profession and the second Publicizing the Chemical Profession. The first explains the aims and objectives of the News Service, its activities and broad philosophy, and the second is a practical handbook fear the guidance of public relations officers of local sections, divisions, and meeting committees of the AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY in publicizing the chemical profession and chemical science and industry. Public enlightenment has been a primary objective of the News Service throughout its history. There are several objectives involved, however, in an educational program of this kind. They are: 1. To disseminate information on chemical science and technology, thereby increasing public understanding of chemistry s contribution to human welfare and progress. 2.
