Abstract

Educational policy in Poland is directed toward a higher level of qualification of school principals and vocational counselors. This is reflected in laws that regulate the qualification requirements that must be met to be promoted or appointed to corresponding positions. This qualification is served by a system of teacher training and further education that has existed for a long time already, and is continuously being improved and modified. The Center for Continuing Teacher Education (before 1989 called the Institute for Teacher Training) has assumed a central role in the accomplishment of these tasks. The Center for the Training and Continuing Education of School Principals and Vocational Counselors, in close cooperation with universities and research institutions in Poland and abroad, is active in theory, in didactics, and in relevant research.
