Abstract

A survey was conducted to examine the professional involvement of serials catalogers in continuing education and staff development activities in several relevant areas. Analysis of the survey found that the respondents are involved with a wide variety of professional organizations, but tend to attend local conferences rather than those on the national level. Furthermore, the respondents are keeping abreast of current trends in serials librarianship by reading a variety of professional journals and using both basic and auxiliary cataloging tools. In most cases, there is administrative support for these activities; however, the level of support varies from library to library.
