Abstract

ABSTRACTCris Mayo, in her 2014 book, LGBTQ Youth and Education: Policies and Practices, vigorously takes an intersectional approach to understanding and unpacking the complexities of the sexual and gender identity of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer youth. By closely examining the pedagogical, curricular, and policy changes that must occur to improve the experience of schooling for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer youth, Mayo (2014) strikes an important balance between overly portraying the students as victims, and acknowledging the students as youth with agency. This book should be required reading for teachers, administrators, policy makers, and anyone working with or interested in the complexities of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer youth.
