Abstract

Abstract By relaxing the rigid-lid approximation in the ocean, significant improvements are made to the mathematical and physical aspects of a previously presented model. The difficulties associated with |κ| in wavenumber space are eliminated and the velocities remain bounded at the coastal tip. The method of solution has significant changes but the well-known shelf waves are essentially unaltered and the overall conclusions are similar.
