Abstract

This action research aimed to address the level of awareness and engagement on early marriage among high school IP learners of Upper Lumabat Integrated School for the school year 2021-2022 and to come up with an intervention to address the existing problem that affects school performance. This study utilized the quantitative-qualitative research design, specifically, the sequential explanatory method. Fifteen
 (15) high school IP learners were the participants in the study. Results revealed that learners are moderately aware of the consequences and risks of early marriage, with a weighted mean of 2.94, and moderately engaged, with a 2.47 weighted mean, through the following factors: earnest desire to marry, family pressure, peer pressure, parents’ relationship, culture practice, repaying a debt, being a burden in the family, a means to settle alliances and disputes, dowry and absence of face-to-face learning modality. Hence, it is recommended that teachers and parents should work hand in hand to lessen, if not prevented, the number of cases of early marriage. It was recommended that the “Lamdag” Contextualized School Guidance Program would be conducted as an intervention to educate and enhance the knowledge of learners in terms of the consequences and risks when engaging in early marriage.
