Abstract
Attempting to understand important concepts: local church, pastor, and baptism, based solely on first-person observation leads to misunderstanding. Our identity and practice as Baptists flow from the Bible, confessional statements, and historical Baptist theology. This article highlights the need for local church contextualization that intentionally includes this source material to aid understanding among visitors and members alike.
