Abstract

The paper compares approaches to the continuing education of professionals, advocating a contextual learning approach. Through contextual learning a student progresses from conventional passive learning, through more active forms, to forms which simulate real–world professional activity. The development of theory and practice of contextual learning in the USSR is presented.
