Abstract

Pervasive gaming, mobile gaming applications interleaved into the real world, is an emerging field for context-aware multimedia applications. Mobile multimedia applications are fostered by the improvement of hardware technology and the emergence of new devices with sufficient networking and processing capabilities. However, these extending possibilities also increase the complexity of software development due to the distributed mobile environment. This paper presents a framework enabling rapid development and easy deployment of scalable, context-aware multimedia applications for mobile environments. Subsequently, the development of Cron, a pervasive game operating in the city area of Berlin, Germany, is introduced to prove the framework concept and demonstrate its features as well as potential for further research.
