Abstract

VANET consists of road vehicles each equipped with wireless communication device to provide road safety. Vehicle can transfer disseminate information using VANET services to all vehicles travelling over a geographical area with high reliability and low delay. We propose Contention Window (CW) based design mechanism that acts as segmentation based data dissemination protocol to maximize throughput and minimize delay in a network of Road Side Units (RSU) and On Board Units (OBU) of vehicles that works efficiently in transport highway. Our aim is to devise method to select contention window of appropriate size that leads to maximum throughput and minimum latency by appropriate selection of relay node. The real-time performance of the network link is simulated using NS2 on various window sizes by partitioning the road into varying segment sizes. We analyze their impact to improve the performance of network and show that dissemination beyond the communication range is possible.
