Abstract

Objective To determine the content and to evaluate the antioxidant activity of total polyphenols and tannins from Athyrium multidentatum(Doll.)Ching rhizome. Methods Folin phenol reagent-casein method was used to determine the content of total polyphenols and tannins. Spectrophotometry was used to evaluate the antioxidant activity. Results The content of total polyphenols and tannins was 24.61%and 4.59%, respectively. The total polyphenols and tannins exhibited strong reducing power and hydroxyl radicals/superoxide radicals scavenging capability. Conclusion The antioxidant activity of total polyphenols and tannins from Athyrium multidentatum(Doll.)Ching rhizome is significant and further investigation is deserved in the future. Key words: Athyrium multiclentatum (Doll.) Ching; Tannins; Polyphenols; Antioxidants (TCD)Spectrophotometry
