Abstract

Missiology, though already established as a discipline on its own right, is still struggling with its identity and purpose in theological education. Missiology has never gotten the needed space in theological education. This situation is still obtainable despite the shift in modern theology which has helped in producing enormous reflections and publications on issues that touch on missiological concerns: evangelization, Christology, religious pluralism, contextual theology, inculturation, inter-religious dialogue, human promotion, globalization, etc. This article examine the origins and new perspectives of missiology as a science of its own in theological education. The paper discusses the place and role of missiology in theological education. It also highlights the functions of missiology in the missionary activity of the church as well as the new challenges facing the discipline in the field of theology.
