Abstract
To understand all of the current options available to treat glucose intolerance in pregnancy. Recent attention to the use of oral agents in the treatment of gestational diabetes remains controversial. This review will outline the advantages and disadvantages, as well as safety profiles of two classes of oral mediations. There are many effective treatments for gestational diabetes. Oral medications appear to be well tolerated and effective for treatment of gestational diabetes, and may offer a greater patient compliance. The literature supports use of oral medications as first-line treatment for patients with gestational diabetes that cannot achieve glycemic goals with diet and exercise.
