Abstract

During my training to become an Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) I experienced a situation which could have endangered a patient. I have reflected upon this incident using the Gibbs reflective cycle (see Jasper 2003) to help me analyse how the situation arose, how it could have been prevented and what I can learn from it. During the incident I was undertaking the circulating role in an orthopaedics case.
