Abstract

Abstract: The national Topographic Map Series at 1:250 000 scale is an integral part of the Australian national mapping program. It is the largest scale at which the whole country is covered by line maps as distinct from a mixture of line maps and orthophotomaps. There are 541 maps in the series. The series will replace the R502 series at the same scale which was completed in 1968. The new maps are wholly metric and contoured at 50-metre intervals. The sample map is part of sheet SE 52-7 Limbunya on the border between the Northern Territory and Western Australia. The area is typical of much of Australia's sparsely populated country.
