Abstract

QJEGH has served the applied geology community for over half a century as a widely accessible, rigorous source of research findings and lessons from case studies. Over the past thirty years or so this has included contaminated land management matters. The Geological Society's role as both a learned and professional body with a large number of members working in the management of land contamination and redevelopment of post-industrial brownfields has been strengthened by the new contaminated land specialist group. The open access route of publication can only help the practitioner audiences beyond the Society's membership appreciate the value of, and need for, specialist geological input in contaminated land projects. QJEGH has a tradition – that should be welcome and fostered – of publishing case studies from which generic lessons can be learnt.
