Abstract

Cyber-Physical Production Systems (CPPS) integrate virtual and physical parts of manufacturing lines. This integration requires a myriad of Information Technology (IT) and Operations Technology (OT) technologies, standards and specifications related to Industry 4.0. This leads to an intrinsic complexity that poses a barrier to the deployment of CPPS within real-world manufacturing scenarios. This paper therefore proposes a straightforward, micro-service-based containerized edge architecture focused on a common task of CPPS: asynchronous job management of manufacturing data analysis. Moreover, a reference implementation is presented and validated, tackling a real computer vision quality inspection task.
