Abstract

Abstract - The paper is concerned with the contact problem of a viscoelastic body with a rough rigid surface and the identification problem for the friction coefficient in the contact. Using a variational method, the authors give regularized solutions to the recovery problem, formulated as a minimization problem. A smoothness result for the fit-to-data functional is proved.
