Abstract

Contact lens usage has varied greatly in India over the years, with major changes occurring in recent years. There has been a visible change in all aspects of contact lenses including public awareness, lens fitting, and aftercare. The contributions of the International Association of Contact Lens Educators (IACLE) and the contact lens industry will have a long-term effect on contact lens usage. Before the entry of the major contact lens corporations into the Indian market, contact lens wear in the country was very low. A market survey 3 years ago estimated the number of contact lens wearers at 300,000; this has increased to approximately 450,000 today. The population of India is approximately 930 million.
