Abstract

Contact Lens Correction by Bier and Lowther is a lengthy and encyclopedic text. The book is divided in five sections. In the introductory section, basic anatomy and physiology of the ocular structures relevant to contact lenses are well presented. In addition, there is a rather detailed chapter on the optics of contact lenses. Included in this first segment are chapters on lens materials and manufacture and on various solutions and containers required for care of lenses. The proper examination of the contact lens patient is also outlined in depth. In the second section, there are detailed chapters dealing with haptic or scleral lenses. Their value is discussed as are the methods of production and fitting. Certainly one gains a rather clear view of the techniques involved. Section 3 concerns hard corneal lenses.
