Abstract

The distinctive features of contact interaction between seat and wedge in gate valves are investigated using a finite-elements analysis program. It is shown by the example of DN400 valve that the forces of interaction between the seat and the wedge are unevenly distributed over the area of their contact. To avoid failure, the forces of contact interaction must not be excessively large. However, weakening of contact interaction increases the risk of loss of leak-tightness of the seat–wedge junction.
