Abstract
This paper describes the use of liquid metals to study the contact charging of insulators by metals. With the use of liquid metals we have been able to determine unambiguously the contact charge deposited on insulators per unit area of contact (contact-charge density). We also report on the use of liquid metals to investigate the “charge accumulation which occurs on insulators when they are repeatedly touched by a solid metal.
