Abstract

Abstract Contact behavior plays key role for increasing the life of mechanical components which are in contact while transmitting torque. The stresses can be developed between gears, in ball and roller bearings, journal bearings and heavy weight vehicle that is locomotive wheel and rail when they are in contact. Wheel and rail are made of Manganese steel and Hot rolled steel .The stresses developed between wheel and rail are in high based on load carrying, therefore, in this paper presented the contact behavior of various locomotive wheels and rails under constant load. The wheels are iron ore wagon, freight wagon and generic locomotive wagons of Sweden. The contact stress is found high in iron ore wagon and low in generic locomotive wagon.
