Abstract
Although the step could be dismissed as a gimmick, the move to sell carbon-neutral TVs is part of a plan to slash the power consumption of its products. Flat-panel TVs have come in for criticism from environmental campaigners because they threaten to push up home-electricity consumption. Although an LCD TV is more efficient per square inch than an old cathode-ray tube set, consumers are buying TVs with much bigger screens because the flat-panel devices fit so much better into the living room.
