Abstract

AbstractThis chapter argues that tourist images and experiences are not shaped just by the producer but also by tourists who, as active agents, interpret and negotiate with producers. What the chapter intends to examine is this arena of negotiation. In particular, it looks at the ways in which Bali images are reproduced in Japanese tourist literature and the ways in which these images are consumed by young female Japanese tourists in their actual tourist experiences.
