Abstract
Consultants have stated that they have no confidence in the authority of the Review Body on Doctors’ and Dentists’ Remuneration (DDRB) or in its credibility to make recommendations on their terms and conditions. In December 2012 the DDRB published its long delayed report on compensation levels and award schemes for consultants working in UK health services. The report proposed a new tier of “principal consultant,” intended for high performers, and curbs on the top tier of earnings.1 Delegates to the BMA’s annual consultants’ conference in London on 6 March voted to jettison the report’s findings ahead of formal contractual negotiations.
