Abstract

The research aims to contribute to the establishment of the field of theoretical and critical studies in contemporary dance in Brazil. It is proposed to do a literature review of the seminal works of Ramsay Burt, Judson Dance Theater - performative traces ; Andre Leek, Exhausting Dance - performance and the politics of movement and Andrew Hewitt, Social choreography - the ideology in dance performance and everyday movement and, from this review, to find such debates in the contemporary scene in Sao Paulo. Each of these works establishes an epistemological dialogue with the contemporary artistic production. We intend to demonstrate how such discussions can be acknowledged in local production, linking each to a work of contemporary dance in Sao Paulo. The current stage of the research, in which it will be shared, is the literature review of the mentioned works.
