Abstract

There are many fault lines in the Plain of Truth. The chief one that these four books recognize is that of constructivism, which divides them in two Blackburn and Boghossian (anti), and Fuller and Golinski (pro). Before we review their positions, let us survey the ground. There is an obvious sense in which construction is unavoidable. For instance, in housing there is no evidential support for either Eternalism (always there), or Magic Qust appeared), and lots for human Construction (got built). Similarly, for hurricanes, ant colonies, and rabbit warrens. In a cosmos without magic, but with a Big Bang, everything must have been constructed in this dynamical sense. In particular, for human life beginning with single cells, everything from cognitive development to culture, must be a construction. This is, indeed, construction that everyone can share, and must share if they want a scientifically plausible position.
