Abstract

Aperture antennas for wide angle coverage applications such as multi-beams and scanning beams have been developed previously. Researchers have also developed a convenient dielectric lens antenna with an array feed for wide angle beam scanning. In this paper, the primary technologies used in dielectric lens shaping, array feed design, and fabrication methods of a practical antenna are shown. Further, this wide angle beam scanning antenna is applied to a multi-beam antenna, and its performance is investigated. A novel patch array feed capable of arbitrary polarization is developed. Finally, its application to a metamaterial lens is also investigated. By employing metamaterials, compact antenna sizes can be achieved.
