Abstract
A completely nonunitary contraction operator is considered. Its functional model is constructed and, moreover, a constructive approach is indicated for passing to the model operator. For contractions with equal and finite defect indices, the spectral projections of the absolutely continuous spectrum are constructed for both the initial and the model spaces.
