Abstract

This paper addresses the planned construction methods for the immersed tunnel. The immersed tunnel is constructed as a concrete tunnel directly founded on improved soils. Elements are constructed in a casting basin, towed approximately 36 km and immersed at the tunnel alignment which is exposed to waves from the open sea. The effect of waves and currents on the operation of connecting one tunnel element to the previous tunnel element at 45 m of water depth is a major challenge.
