Abstract

A general exploration of the design considerations, construction techniques, and test procedures utilized in the erection of a 135-ft (41-m) diam x 186-ft 4-in. (56-m) high full-pressure free-standing steel containment vessel and 25-ft (7.6-m) diam equipment airlock for the Fast Flux Test Facility at Richland, Wash. The use of special erection equipment such as a large capacity guyed derrick is described in this article. Also included is a summary of the unique operating characteristics of the 25-ft (7.6-m) diam equipment airlock.
