Abstract

This paper highlights a number of basic causes for failure, which may be attributed to the fact that some contractors undertake the construction of diaphragm walls without having a sound technical knowledge of this construction method. It explains how careful coordination between management and construction team can ensure the technically perfect construction of diaphragm walls, even in very difficult subsoil conditions. Findings regarding soil mechanics processes during excavation operations are presented. (TRRL)
