Abstract

The problem of producing meaningful contour maps from spatially distributed categorical data has been investigated. A method has been developed which produces maps of relative and absolute density, without recourse to any regular grid system. Neolithic axe data has been used to test the method, and a modified density function developed which attempts to portray the underlying structure of the data.
