Construction and management of PICC nursing team

Abstract

Objective To study the application and management of PICC nursing team in the clinic . Methods Totals of 257 patients who were carried out PICC from November 2009 to October 2011 were classified into control group without management of PICC nursing team .The other 257 patients who experienced both the PICC and management of PICC nursing team from November 2011 to February 2013 were classified into intervention group .In the control group , PICC maintenance was undertaken by all nurses but the implementation of PICC was operated by a fixed nurse .In the intervention group , both the implementation and maintenance of PICC were undertaken by PICC nursing team .To compare respectively one-time success rate of PICC , related complications and satisfaction of patients to nursing job of the two groups .Results One-time success rate of the control group （71.6%） was lower than that of the intervention group （96.1%）, with a statistically significant difference（χ2 =57.01, P<0.01）; The rate of PICC-related complications occurrence in the control group was 20.6%, which was much higher than 6.2% in the intervention group , with a statistically significant difference （χ2 =22.92, P<0.01）;The satisfaction of patients in the control group was 74.7%, which was lower than 97.7%in the intervention group, with a statistically significant difference （χ2 =20.72,P <0.01）.Conclusions The management mode of PICC nursing team can improve the nursing quality , significantly reduce PICC related complications and improve the level of the nursing professional technology and the satisfaction of patients .
