Abstract

AbstractIn this letter, a novel one‐dimensional supramolecular polymer has been successfully constructed from 4‐(4‐(1‐benzyl‐pyridinium)styryl)‐1‐methyl‐pyridinium chloride (BPSMP) guest molecule and a host CB[8] depending on the host‐guest interactions which was characterized by NMR, electronic absorption, ITC, DLS, ESI‐MS and fluorescence spectroscopy. Interestingly, the supramolecular polymers could transform into synergistic covalent and supramolecular polymers when irradiated with visible light, from irreversible polymerization of a preorganized supramolecular polymer through cucurbit[8]uril (CB[8])‐controlled [2+2] photodimerization.
