Abstract

Bi2O3 and Bi2SiO5–Bi2O3 hybrid loaded sepiolite photocatalysts were synthesized via chemical precipitation method by tuning ratio of Bi3+ and sepiolite. The samples were characterized and photodegradation of malachite green (MG) under simulated visible light irradiation was employed to investigate their photocatalytic activities. The results showed that Bi2SiO5–Bi2O3 hybrid loaded sepiolite had small and relatively uniform particles, large specific surface area. Moreover, after combining with Bi2SiO5, the hybrid showed more effective charge carrier separation, leading to higher degradation efficiency for MG with high concentration (50 mg/L) contrast to Bi2O3 loaded sepiolite. Last, the photocatalytic mechanism over the hybrid was put forward based on active species trapping study.
