Abstract
This study focuses on the relationship between culture, use of language, and the changing sociopolitical situation in the Republic of Turkey as reflected in the textual content of political cartoons. It is based on the presumption that the increasing and pervasive support of fundamentalist Islam, mediated by current government enforcement of dogmatic religious beliefs and social conduct, has affected and shaped language use in Turkish political cartoons.
