Abstract

AbstractThe use of conventional/mechanical methods for wastewater treatment is not always economically and technically feasible in low-income regions and small/medium rural or remote communities. Thus, the use of nature-based solutions such as constructed wetlands (CW) is viewed as an attractive and feasible alternative. However, the application of CW in the Middle East region is limited; in particular in Iran, CW technology remains largely unknown with very few and scattered applications. Therefore, this chapter presents two CW case studies from Iran. The first is a unique application of a CW system for wastewater treatment from a glass manufacturing industry, while the second is a hybrid CW treating wastewater from a University dormitory. Both CW systems are full-scale facilities and are already in operation.
