Abstract

A male, aged 39, had constriction of the middle and lower third of the oesophagus due to nonspecific inflammatory bands surrounding it. Division of these bands and oesophagolysis relieved dysphagia. Anterolateral thoracotomy in supine position was found satisfactory for exploration of the oesophagus. The pathological features resemble nonspecific aortoarteritis. Altered reaction to tuberculous infection and other possible aetiological causes are discussed.
