Constraints on the gauge groups and matter representations

Abstract

It is shown that from a Principle of Covariance with respect to universal basis transformations of matter multiplets in irreducible representations of the gauge symmetry groups, one can derive the observed elementary particle representations, namely: doublets of SU (2) × U (1), triplets of SU (3) and also the representations of the Lorentz group - spinor, vector and scalar fields.
