Abstract

When deciding to develop and use computer-assisted instruction (CAI) within a distance education environment, there are a number of constraints that must be kept in mind. In the article limitations on CAI and distance teaching in general and specific problems encountered in using CAI in the distance education environment are discussed. CAI can help to eliminate some weaknesses of distance education in general; on the other hand, distance education as such can place more constraints on CAI.
