Abstract

Constraints of continuous moment sum rules as applied to the symmetric $\ensuremath{\pi}N$ scattering amplitude are used to rule out all two-pole models for its asymptotic behavior. Two three-pole solutions are discussed having $\ensuremath{\sigma}(\ensuremath{\infty})$ equal to 21 and 17 mb, respectively.
