Abstract

Constitutive equations of thermoelasticity are presented for nonlinear anisotropic nonhomogeneous media in a convected coordinate system. The media are characterized by temperature-dependent coefficients. The stress-temperature tensor as a function of second- and third-order elastic tensors and of a thermal expansion tensor as well as relations between isentropic and isothermal elastic tensors are obtained. The effects of coupling of displacement and temperature fields in the cases of linear and nonlinear constitutive equations are studied for an isotropic homogeneous bar that is compressed and tensioned.
